COVID-19 Support for the Community
For all those who have been financially impacted by the coronavirus, the stimulus money that began arriving last week will have to be spent on basic needs. For the rest of us, however, I’m asking that we all think very intentionally about how we put these funds to use to benefit our friends and neighbors who are struggling. My family has decided to devote a portion of our payment to local nonprofits that are providing COVID-related relief, and we will be spending the balance on local businesses.
I’m sure that’s a common approach for many families. Green Bay is a giving and supportive community. It’s a place where we know how and when to pull together to help one another through difficult times.
This is one of those times, so I’m asking everyone who’s in a position to give, to give. And I’m asking everyone who’s in a position to spend, to spend generously on local businesses.
Our ability to remain united has been tested during the last month, and that stress and strain will not dissipate any time soon, but we can’t let the virus divide us. It’s the virus that deserves our anger, not our neighbors. It’s the virus that deserves our hatred, not our fellow community members.
So I am asking all Green Bay area residents to keep on being kind, to keep on being thoughtful, and to keep on being supportive and optimistic about the future that lies beyond the outbreak. We will get through this, there’s no doubt about that, but it’s up to us to determine what this community looks like and feels like on the other side. We are a good and decent people. Please keep on living that truth. #keeponwiKeep On WIGreater Green Bay Community FoundationBrown County United WayGreater Green Bay Chamber
