Community Notification: Duck and Goose Season; East Shore Drive

Green Bay Police Department Logo

The Green Bay Police Department is working with the East Shore Drive Neighborhood Association to inform residents in the immediate area about waterfowl hunting on the Bay of Green Bay.

Waterfowl season runs from September 1, 2023, through January 2, 2024, which includes several seasons of different species. Please consult the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for current regulations.

Hunting hours are 30-minutes before sunrise to sunset. Hunters may lawfully pursue migratory birds while in the waters of Green Bay beginning at the edge. It includes the waters in front of Bay Beach Park, the warehouse/marina shoreline, west shore including Ken Euers Nature Trail per City of Green Bay Ordinance 26-6, and east shore northeast of Mahon Creek. Also, per Brown County Ordinance 31.02(3), hunters must be 100 ft from the established “bulkhead line” in the residential area east of Bay Beach Park, and west of Mahon Creek. For a frame of reference, this is approximately five car lengths.

Regarding trespassing, if hunters have a duck blind that starts out in the water and gets brought to shore as the water levels change, they have a right to retrieve their blind without breaking the trespassing law.

And if a bird falls on private property, hunters need to ask the property owner for permission before retrieving the bird. This bird does not belong to landowner. If permission is not granted, the DNR should be called for retrieval.
