The Green Bay Department of Public Works is planning the replacement of the existing Chantel Street bridge over Beaver Dam Creek.
Project Description
The proposed undertaking will consist of bridge replacement and approach work of the Chantel Street bridge that crosses Beaver Dam Creek, approximately 100’ north of the Chantel Street and 9th Street intersection.
Project Purpose
The purpose of this project is to provide a long-term and safe crossing of Beaver Dam Creek by replacing a structurally deficient bridge that has a deteriorating deck and substructure. In addition, the existing bridge rails are a hazard and do not meet current crash standards. The project will also reconstruct the approaches and install new railing that meets current standards.
Proposed Improvements
The proposed improvement would include replacement of the existing bridge with a 34.5-foot long single-span concrete flat slab bridge. The clear width between the face of the curb would be 40-feet. Approximately 35 feet of roadway approaches at each end of the bridge would be reconstructed as part of the project. The bridge would be constructed on a similar horizontal and vertical alignment to limit the impacts to the nearby properties.
Real Estate
Additional right-of-way would be required for this project from the Beaver Dam Creek Greenway. Approximately 0.008 acres would be required from the parcel west of the bridge and 0.018 acres from the parcel in the east of the bridge.
Traffic Impacts
Chantel will be closed to through traffic between 9th Street and 7th Street during construction. Local access will be maintained throughout the life of the project. The project is planned to occur during summer and open to through traffic prior to the start of the 2023 school year.
