Mayor Declares May 6th "Chief Andrew Smith Day" in Green Bay
( Green Bay) - Mayor Eric Genrich proclaimed May 6th, to be "Chief Andrew Smith Day", who retired honorable on May 3rd. Chief Smith was appointed as Chief of the Green Bay Police Department on February 1, 2016; and described his appointment as the “crown jewel” of his decorated career. He has served in law enforcement for 27 years. "Thanks for your amazing service at the helm of the Green Bay Police Department. We thank you, Chief, and wish you all the best in your retirement", said Mayor Genrich.
The proclamation reads as follows:
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Chief Andrew Smith joined the Los Angeles Police Department in June of 1988; and worked assignments throughout the City of Angels for more than 27 years;
WHEREAS, Chief Smith was appointed as Chief of the Green Bay Police Department on February 1, 2016; and described his appointment as the “crown jewel” of his decorated career, and
WHEREAS, Chief Smith’s leadership helped drive the crime rate down every year, and
WHEREAS, Chief Smith’s focus on working in partnership with the community by building trust, listening, and responding to all community concerns has strengthened community police relations; and
WHEREAS, Chief Smith led the Green Bay Police Department through the COVID-19 pandemic and the civil unrest in the summer of 2020 where his experience and dedication to community engagement and transparency was crucial to maintaining law and order; and
WHEREAS, Chief Smith’s leadership and focus on community engagement, transparency, and police accountability has set the Green Bay Police Department up for future success; and
WHEREAS, Chief Smith retired honorably from the Green Bay Police Department on May 3, 2021; and
WHEREAS, we thank Chief Smith for his work with the community of Green Bay; and
WHEREAS, Chief Smith is now looking forward to growing apples, fishing, hunting, chopping and stacking wood, and spending time with his family:
Now therefore, I, Eric Genrich, Mayor of the City of Green Bay do hereby proclaim May 6th 2021 as
“Andrew Smith Day”
in the city of Green Bay and encourage residents to join me in thanking Mr. Smith for his years of dedicated service to our community
