Mayor Genrich Lauds President Biden’s Signing of American Rescue Plan

Welcomes $25.23 million investment in Green Bay’s people, businesses, infrastructure

Today, Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich celebrated President Joe Biden’s signing of the American Rescue Plan Act, which will send approximately $25.23 million to city coffers for the purposes of recovering from the economic, social, and fiscal effects of COVID-19.

“Senator Tammy Baldwin and President Biden deserve enormous thanks and recognition for putting in place legislation that will tangibly improve the lives and livelihoods of Green Bay’s residents in the near future,” said Genrich.

The City awaits the Treasury Department’s rules-writing, which will make clear the purposes for which the American Rescue Plan dollars can be used. However, according to the bill language, local units of government can make infrastructural investments in water, sewer, or broadband needs, backfill revenue losses associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, and extend aid to individuals, businesses, and certain economic sectors in need of assistance. This aid to local governments is in addition to the extension of $1400 direct checks to individuals, enhanced unemployment benefits, an increased and refundable child tax credit, and more affordable health insurance options for Americans.

“I am more optimistic than ever about our future as a city,” said Genrich. “These funds will allow us to make strategic investments in Green Bay’s people, businesses, and infrastructure, enabling us to help reconstruct a local economy and community that is more resilient to future challenges and better attuned to new opportunities.”
