[ARCHIVED] Preparing for the Spring Thaw

The Green Bay area received approximately 24 inches of snow over the weekend of April 13 to 15, 2018...our largest April snowfall since 1888. Now temperatures are forecast to rise to over 50°F during the next week, which will cause the snow to melt.

In preparation for the springtime melt, City of Green Bay-DPW has begun clearing snow/ice from stormwater inlets so streets can drain properly. However, there are almost 15,000 stormwater inlets in the City of Green Bay alone, not to mention those in neighboring communities. So it is expected that not all inlets will be clear before the snow turns to water.

To help prevent standing water issues, City of Green Bay-DPW is asking residents to consider clearing snow away from storm-water inlets near their house. This will 1) reduce the chance of water backing up onto private property, and 2) assist with keeping streets free of standing water.

Any help residents can provide on this project is greatly appreciated. Please share this information through your news media to assist the City in serving residents to the best of our ability.
