During the month of April the Green Bay Public Arts Commission received over 40 original poetry submissions to consider. The Green Bay Public Arts Commission finalized the selection of five community poems this past week, which will be featured in Green Bay’s first sidewalk poetry project later this summer.
The select poets whose works will be featured are:
• Joshua Hembel
• Doris Bezio
• Jonathan Mojock
• Shelly Paul
• Jalaiya Smith, a second-grader at Lincoln School
These original poems will be made into stamps in July and will be stamped in areas where the sidewalks are already scheduled for replacement later this summer. Each poem may be stamped in multiple places in the city. This is the first year of the program in Green Bay, but it is inspired by similar programs in Appleton, Wisconsin and St. Paul, Minnesota.
Several of the select poets will be presenting their poems during the July 16th Common Council meeting. Click here to read the poems.
