Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Wisconsin. In many cases, people can prevent heart disease. People can literally take,steps to lower their chance of heart disease and its risk factors, like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
Walking is one of the easiest ways to reduce a person’s risk for heart disease. Research shows that walking as little as 30 minutes a day can reduce a person’s risk of heart disease by 40%.
You don’t need special clothes or a gym to walk. All you need is 30 minutes.
Move with the Mayor is a health and wellness initiative to get our employees walking during their lunch breaks. Since 2015, Mayor Schmitt has lead walks over the lunch hour in the month of September to increase awareness of heart disease. The City of Green Bay partners with the National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention to promote movement throughout the workday.
