Fall 2023 Loose Leaf and Yard Waste Collection Information
The Fall 2023 loose leaf and yard waste collection begins Monday, October 9th.
The City of Green Bay Department of Public Works will begin its fall curbside collection of loose leaves, garden waste, and grass clippings on Monday, October 9th, 2023. This material should be placed out to the curb in separate piles (leaves/grass together and brush/branches together) and should not be co-mingled. Bagged material will not be picked up.
Green Bay-DPW will collect yard waste through Friday 11/24/23. To get your yard waste collected curbside, it must be placed to the curb no later than 11/19/23).
November 19, 2023 is the deadline for yard waste items to be placed at the curb for final collection.
Yard waste placed to the curb after November 19th will NOT be collected by the City.
Residents are responsible for disposing of their own yard waste after the fall collection period, or they will be assessed a fee for collection. Please see Yard Waste Drop-Off Center information below.
Please note that placing yard waste in the road itself is against City ordinance, and residents who do so will be subject to collection fees and/or fines. Similar to past collection periods, Public Works staff will be recording violations.
Residents are reminded that raking leaves into the street (1) increases pollution of storm water; (2) may cause flooding by blocking drainage structures; (3) poses a dangerous attraction to young children; and (4) violates the terms of the City’s stormwater permit obligations.
Please refrain from piling yard waste next to trees, poles, mailboxes, or other obstructions as this slows down collection crews and may cause damage to equipment or the obstruction.
Further information may be obtained by calling the Department of Public Works – Operations Division at (920) 448-3535 or visiting the City’s website at www.greenbaywi.gov/publicworks.

A Green Alternative: Leave them Lay!
As an alternative to raking leaves to the curb, residents are encouraged to try chopping up moderate amounts of leaves with a lawnmower. This can be done during normal lawn mowing. Just don’t allow the leaves to mat and make sure that ample grass shows through them. This will save you work and time, add nutrients to your lawn, reduce windblown leaves in your neighborhood, and reduce the amount of labor and fuel the City needs to use for leaf collection. If you really like to rake, composting your leaves in a backyard garden is another alternative that will provide you useful organic material next year.
