Yard Waste
Spring 2023 Loose Leaf and Yard Waste Collection Information
The Spring 2023 loose leaf and yard waste collection begins Monday, April 24, and will run for four (4) weeks . However, the last day to leave Yard Waste out for collection is Sunday, May 14, 2023.
The City of Green Bay Department of Public Works will begin its spring curbside collection of loose leaves, garden waste, and grass clippings on Monday, April 24, 2023. This material should be placed out to the curb in separate piles (leaves/grass together and brush/branches together) and should not be co-mingled. Bagged material will not be picked up.
May 14, 2023 is the deadline for yard waste items to be placed at the cub for final collection.
Yard waste placed to the curb after May 14 will NOT be collected by the City.
Residents are responsible for disposing of their own yard waste after the spring collection period, or they will be assessed a fee for collection. Please see Yard Waste Drop-Off Center information below.
Please note that placing yard waste in the road itself is against City ordinance, and residents who do so will be subject to collection fees and/or fines. Similar to past collection periods, Public Works staff will be recording violations. Residents who work in their yard after May 14 must dispose of their own yard waste. Yard waste left at the curb after the deadline is subject to collection fees.
Residents are reminded that raking leaves into the street increases pollution of storm water, may cause flooding by blocking drainage structures, and most importantly, piles of leaves in the street are a dangerous attraction to young children.
Please refrain from piling yard waste next to trees, poles, mailboxes, or other obstructions as this slows down collection crews and may cause damage to equipment or the obstruction.
It is not possible to accurately tell residents the exact day their yard waste will be picked up, but once collection begins, you may contact:
Department of Public Works - Operations Division
(920) 448-3535
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
to find out what area crews are working in and how they are progressing. Daily informational updates will also be available below and will posted on the City’s Department of Public Works Facebook page.
Unfortunately staff is unable to provide specific dates and times for when your leaf and yard waste collection will occur. The Department of Public Works appreciates your patience while we proceed through the routes for collection. We will attempt at least one round in every neighborhood per week. Please review the tables below for updates on where the crews have recently been collecting.

A Green Alternative: Leave them Lay!
As an alternative to raking leaves to the curb, residents are encouraged to try chopping up moderate amounts of leaves with a lawnmower. This can be done during normal lawn mowing. Just don’t allow the leaves to mat and make sure that ample grass shows through them. This will save you work and time, add nutrients to your lawn, reduce windblown leaves in your neighborhood, and reduce the amount of labor and fuel the City needs to use for leaf collection. If you really like to rake, composting your leaves in a backyard garden is another alternative that will provide you useful organic material next year.
