About the Commission

The Commission oversees a variety of locally specific and state mandated planning functions for the City.  Major functions involve managing the City’s land-use codes and zoning map; regulating the utilization of property; planning future land-use; guiding social, economic and physical growth; developing and implementing plans including the comprehensive plan, and area, corridor or neighborhood plans; and the protection and use of natural resources.  

• How appointed: appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Common Council
• Number of members: 7, including 1 alder
• Length of terms: 36 months
