City Prosecutor

The City Prosecutor is charged with prosecuting city code violations and civil traffic offenses that occur in the city of Green Bay.

Criminal cases are prosecuted by the Brown County District Attorney’s Office. Citations issued outside of the city of Green Bay are outside of our jurisdiction. If you have been criminally charged or issued a citation by a different municipality, the City of Green Bay will not have any information regarding your case and you should contact those legal offices directly. 

If you wish to challenge the citation, you will need to appear at court on your first appearance date and enter a plea of “Not Guilty.” The Prosecutor is unable to discuss your case with you until a pretrial has been scheduled. If you would like to speak to the City Prosecutor regarding a citation you received, you must first enter a “Not Guilty” plea and have the matter scheduled for a pretrial.

To reach the City Prosecutor regarding a contested citation or upcoming hearing, please email Rachel Maes or call 920-448-3028 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.   The City Prosecutor may be in court or with another person when you call.  Please leave a voicemail and your message will be returned at the earliest possible convenience. 

During the COVID-19 situation, and the associated Shelter in Place Order from Governor Evers, pretrial conferences for municipal citations will be conducted by phone.  The City Prosecutor will use the phone number on record with the Municipal Court to call defendants or their attorney around the time of their scheduled pretrial conference.  Please understand that pretrial conversations vary in length of time, and the phone call may not be at exactly the time scheduled.  The City Prosecutor will reach out to defendants in the order they are scheduled.  To help ensure you are able to discuss your citation with the City Prosecutor, please confirm your current phone number with the Municipal Court at 920-448-3131.

If you do not have a scheduled pre-trial conference or a matter pending in Municipal Court, the City Prosecutor will not have access to your citation or be able to address any matters with you.  All other inquiries should be directed to the Green Bay Municipal Court.
