Fire Chief David Litton
Chief Litton is a 1980 graduate of Crete-Monee High School and received his Associate of Applied Science degree from Prairie State College in 1989, a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Service Management from Southern Illinois University in 1999, and graduated from the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in 2004 (There have been only about 3000 graduates over the last 30 years). Chief Litton was a licensed paramedic for 25 years and was also certified as an Arson Investigator in the State of Illinois.
David began his fire service career in 1982 with the Crete Township Fire Protection District where he volunteered for 1 year. Chief Litton joined the University Park Fire Department (Illinois) in 1983 as a volunteer and began his full-time employment there as a firefighter/paramedic in 1985. David rose through the ranks and was appointed Fire Chief in June of 1995. In 2005, Litton took on the additional role of Village Manager for University Park. In 2008, Litton accepted the position of Fire Chief for the City of Bolingbrook, Illinois where he served until May of 2013. In July of 2013 he joined the Green Bay Metro Fire Department as Fire Chief.
Chief Litton is married to Martha and combined they have four children (Ryan, Madisen, Nadia, and Jack). The Litton’s reside in the Red Smith area of Green Bay.
When not at work, the Chief enjoys golfing, riding his motorcycle, swimming, watching the Chicago Blackhawks and working around the house. He and his family are extremely happy to be here and look forward to serving the citizens of Green Bay well into the future.
Assistant Chief Robert Goplin
Assistant Chief Rob Goplin entered the fire service in 1993 and was hired by the Green Bay Fire Department in 1997. Having served GBMFD as Firefighter, Division Chief of Fire Training, Assistant Chief of Operations, Battalion Chief, and Fire Chief, Rob again assumed the role of Assistant Chief of Operations in June of 2016. Rob holds an A.A.S. in fire protection, a B.S. in fire and emergency response management, and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program.
Away from work, Rob enjoy’s spending time with his wife and three children. He also enjoy’s riding motorcycle and golfing (which he’s not very good at!). Rob is also an instructor for Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and serves on the Advisory Board for the BFERM Bachelor’s program at UW-Oshkosh.
Assistant Chief Chris Ehmann
Assistant Chief Chris Ehmann started his fire service career with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department in March of 1993. He obtained his Associates Degree in Fire Protection from Fox Valley Technical College in 1992 and Wisconsin licensed EMT-Paramedic in 1996. He has moved up through the ranks at the department from FF, Engineer, and Lieutenant and most recently as a Battalion Chief. He has held other positions including Lieutenant Fire Dispatcher, Interim Division Chief of Training/Support Services.
His current promotion to Assistant Chief has him overseeing the Emergency Medical Services Division, Training Division and Support Services. Keeping the department up to date with ever changing world of technology, software programs, medical response, organizing paramedic teams and response parameters for all special events and the home Packer games are some of his primary responsibilities.
The division consists of three training Captains that keep the department up to date on their E.M.S. licensures, training certifications, new equipment and the newest and best practices that are available. They administer the annual recruit academy for new hires, assist in maintaining our ISO Class 1 rating along with many other duties that make the Green Bay Metro Fire Department a top rated, well trained, efficient department.
Assistant Chief Ehmann is married to Laura and has two children Alex and Maggie. They enjoy going up north, boating, camping, and travelling the along with a wide range of other outdoor activities.
Battalion Chief Steve Sellin
Battalion Chief Sellin began his Fire Service Career in 1990 and joined Green Bay Metro Fire Department in 1994. He holds an A.A.S. in Fire Science from Milwaukee Area Technical College as well as numerous State and National Fire Academy certifications. Battalion Chief Sellin currently heads up Green Bay Metro Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team, is an Assistant Team Leader with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team and is a Rescue Specialist with Wisconsin Task Force One Urban Search and Rescue Team. He is currently Eastside Battalion on A-Shift.

Battalion Chief David Kolz
Battalion Chief Kolz is a 17 year veteran of the fire service spending 4 years as a FF/EMT with the city of South Milwaukee Fire Department and 13 years as a FF/Nationally Registered-Paramedic with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. Battalion Chief Kolz has a Bachelor’s degree (B.B.A.) in Business from UW-Whitewater and Masters Degree Level Certification in Emergency Management, Planning and Administration from UW-Green bay. Dave was promoted to battalion chief in June 2016 after spending the majority of his GBMFD career working out of station 2. Battalion Chief Kolz is responsible for the Green Bay Metro Fire Departments water rescue and ice operations, awards committee, assists with the USAR technical rescue team and heads up the Battalion Led Training (BLT).
Battalion Chief Robert Wiegert
Battalion Chief Robert Wiegert started his career in the fire service in 1984. He started on the Stevens Point fire department after receiving his Associate's degree in Fire Science. In 1989 he became a firefighter for the City of Green Bay. Robert has been a Paramedic for over 20 years as well. His current specialty area is rigs and equipment and the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System. Chief Wiegert currently is a Battalion Chief on the "East Side".

Battalion Chief Drew Spielman
Battalion Chief Drew Spielman began his career with Green Bay in April of 1999. He obtained an Associates Degree in Fire Protection from Fox Valley Technical College and holds several NFA and State Certifications. Drew comes from a firefighting family with his grandfather being a volunteer for many years and his father, a 32 year career firefighter. Drew was promoted to Battalion Chief in December of 2014 after working the majority of his career in the busy downtown area at Stations 1 and 2. Drew is currently in charge of the department radio system and performs a backup roll to managing apparatus and equipment. Drew is also an Assistant Chief with the Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department in southern Brown County.
Battalion Chief Mike Vanden Avond
Mike Vanden Avond, otherwise known as Myk, has lived in Green Bay his entire life. He received his fire protection degree from FVTC and paramedic from NWTC. His first career firefighting job was in the city of Oshkosh where he worked for 2 years. Mike returned to his home town when he was hired by GBMFD 2006. Mike has held many fire related jobs over the years. He was a Haz-Mat technician for Veolia Emergency Services. He also worked for the Bellevue and Allouez fire departments as a paid on call. Mike is a fire instructor for Fire LLC and NWTC. Mike became a Battalion Chief on 12-31-14.

Battalion Chief Ryan Gibbons
Battalion Chief Ryan Gibbons started his career in the fire service in 1989 as a cadet with the Rib Lake Volunteer Fire Department. He became an EMT in 1993. Ryan graduated from FVTC with an Associate’s Degree in Fire Protection in 1996. He worked at Grand Chute Fire Department as a part-time driver and paid on call until being hired by the Green Bay Fire Department in 1997. Ryan attended NWTC to achieve his paramedic certification in 2002. Ryan is a member of the GBMFD Technical Rescue team and is a Logistics Manager for the state USAR team WI-TF 1. He holds numerous other certifications from the National Fire Academy and ProBoard.
Ryan is married to his wife Jennifer, they have 3 children together. He enjoys attending his children’s sporting events, and participating in competitive shooting events. Battalion Chief Gibbons will assist with the GBMFD USAR team and will manage the departments ID’s. Gibbons is assigned to the “West Side” Battalion.
Fire Marshal's Office
Captain Joe Gabe
Captain Joe Gabe entered the fire service in 1998 as a public safety officer in Escanaba, MI. Joe joined the Green Bay Fire Department in April 2001, as a fire fighter. Mr. Gabe was promoted to Lieutenant in the Fire Marshals Office in 2006. Captain Gabe’s responsibilities include fire Inspections, fire code enforcement, fire investigation, and fire prevention/life safety issues. Joe obtained a Bachelors Degree in Science (Secondary Education) from Northern Michigan University in 1992. Captain Gabe is also a Certified Fire Investigator and president of the Brown County Fire Investigation Task Force.

Lieutenant Rob Gering
Lieutenant Rob Gering entered the fire service in 1991 as a paid on call firefighter for the Village of Allouez. He obtained his Emergency Medical Technician license while with Allouez. In 1994, Mr. Gering graduated from Fox Valley Tech with an associate degree in Fire Science. He was hired by the Green Bay Fire Department in April 1995 as a firefighter. Rob was promoted to Lieutenant in the Fire Marshals office in June, 2007. His duties include fire inspection with code enforcement, fire investigation, and fire prevention /life safety issues.

Lieutenant James Weeks
Lieutenant James Weeks entered the Fire Service as volunteer with the Iola Wisconsin Fire Department in 1984. He has an associate degree in Fire protection and is an EMT- Basic. He was also a paid on call Firefighter with the Town of Menasha for 10 years and was Assistant Fire Marshall at Georgia Pacific Broadway mill in Green Bay. In 1998 he was hired by the Green Bay Fire Department and was promoted to Lieutenant in the Fire Marshall’s office in March 2017.
Lieutenant Michael Ireland
Entered the fire service in 1982 as a junior firefighter with hometown volunteer fire department. Followed in dad’s footsteps and became a member of the volunteer fire department in 1987. Graduated from University of Cincinnati with an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Service Technology. Hired by the Green Bay Fire department in March of 1996. Promoted to Lieutenant in the Fire Marshals office in March, 2017. Duties include fire inspections, code enforcement and fire investigations.
Lieutenant Cody Johnson- Life Safety Educator/Public Information Officer
Lt Cody Johnson started with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department in March of 2014. Previous to that he spent 3 years with the Davenport Fire Department in Iowa. He earned his Associates in Fire Protection from Fox Valley Technical College in 2009. Cody's responsibilities include working closely with the community promoting awareness for fire safety and various other hazards.

Captain Dustin Ridings- Training Division
Captain Dustin Ridings began his fire service career in western Wisconsin with a combination department in 1991. He was hired by the Green Bay Fire Department in 1999 and currently serves as the Emergency Medical Services Division Captain. His is responsible for the educational aspects of the division as well as assisting with operational issues. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and is pursuing a second degree in fire science.

Captain Joe Thompson- Training Division
Captain Joe Thompson started his fire service career as a volunteer in his hometown of Whiting, WI in 1994. Soon after, he enrolled at Fox Valley Technical College to pursue a full time firefighter job. After graduation, he enrolled at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College for the paramedic program. After graduating, he was hired by the Village of Allouez fire department in 1999. He was a member of the Allouez fire department when it merged with the City of Green Bay fire department in 2012. Since the merger, he has been promoted twice and now serves as a training captain. He is part of the training division that puts together training and educational programs to help advance the Green Bay Metro Fire Department.

Captain Joe Thomson- Training Division
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and multiple uncles, Joe started his career in the fire service as a volunteer. Joe began with the Lawrence Fire Department in 2000. In 2003 he graduated from FVTC with an Associate Degree in Fire Science. In April of 2004 Joe began his career with the GBMFD. In 2005 he completed the paramedic program at NWTC. Captain Thomson has worked at Stations 2 and 3 for most of his career. Joe has a passion for training and also works as a fire instructor outside the department on his days off. He joined the training division in January of 2016.

Administrative Support Staff
Lynn Beno-Administrative Assistant
Lynn was hired in August of 2010 as the Administrative Assistant for the Fire Department. Lynn was previously the Legal Secretary for the City Attorney’s office and prior to that the Administrative Assistant for the Brown County Corporation Counsel’s office. Lynn’s primary duties are assisting the Chief with administrative duties, assisting in budget preparation, administering the payroll for all of the Fire Department employees and many other administrative functions which ensure the efficient day to day operations of the Fire Department. Lynn was born and raised in Green Bay and is very excited about the new opportunities and challenges she will face at the Fire Department.

Gail Josephson-Clerical Staff
Gail Josephson started working part time at Green Bay Fire in 1992. She came well qualified, as she had been a long time employee at City Hall. Part of her duties include keeping accurate records, retrieving file information for fire personnel, coordinating the Fire Safety House schedule between fire crews and elementary schools, and other school programs. She prides herself on her efficiency, and willingness to work. Her favorite saying is “I like my job!” Gail takes phone calls from the public, as well as other office duties.

Jillian Holtger-Clerical Staff
Jillian joined the Fire Dept team in August 2014 in a Clerk III role. Jillian’s meticulous attention to detail, positive attitude, and strong work ethic has led to receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing and an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies. Her talents will be leveraged within the Fire Dept as her responsibilities will cover the spectrum of administrative tasks including, but are not limited to, answering phones, translating dictation, tracking clothing allowances, budget tracking support, invoicing and scheduling tours. Jillian’s greatest joy is spending time with her family and being Mom to Ellah and Finley.
