In an event to commemorate the end of one era and the beginning of another, Mayor Jim Schmitt was on hand to knock down the first exterior wall as part of the Port Plaza demolition. This initiates the exterior demolition of the mall in preparations for the Schreiber Foods Headquarters and Global Technology Center construction. Demolition of the full site will take approximately 4-6 more weeks. With media on hand, Mayor Jim Schmitt was joined by Andrew Tobish, Director of Communications at Schreiber Foods and Redevelopment Authority (RDA) Chairman Harry Maier.
Mayor Schmitt remarks, “This is a transformational moment for downtown Green Bay. The removal of the former Port Plaza mall will create the opportunity to build a sustainable downtown for the Green Bay community. We look forward to the jobs created, catalytic development, and economic impacts resulting from the upcoming Schreiber Foods development.”
Schreiber’s new Global Technology Center and Home Office will showcase Schreiber’s capabilities and expertise to customers around the world. This 50 million dollar construction project is slated to be completed in the fall of 2014; backed by a company commitment to downtown Green Bay of more than 400 jobs for the next 40 years.
