HJ Martin helps land an additional national anchor for the Military Avenue commercial corridor.

Shortly after Cub Foods closed at the corner of Military Avenue and Mason Street, neighboring business HJ Martin realized an opportunity was at hand.  With Military Avenue already known as Green Bay’s premiere west side shopping district; HJ Martin purchased the property and immediately began courting national retailers to Titletown.  The investment, in excess of $3 million, will initially net 50 jobs at Burlington Coat Factory.  After renovations are complete, 20,000 square feet of additional retail will be available on the west side of the building.

“It is a credit to everyone at H.J. Martin who helped generate the capital to make the initial investment in the former Cub Foods site,” said David Martin of H.J. Martin.  “The corner of Military Avenue and West Mason is a key one for the Military Avenue Business District.  Adding a destination retailer like Burlington will bring shoppers to the area, along with creating jobs and expanding the sales and real estate tax bases.

“We will continue our efforts to make the Military Avenue Business District as vibrant as possible, both for our neighbors and for those visiting us.  We are thankful for the help of Mike Wanezek and Adam Dreier, who made the deal come together.”

The ambitious remodeling project is underway with a target completion time of 4-6 months.

According to the press release from Nation Consulting, this will be Burlington’s ninth Wisconsin location when the store opens this fall.  H.J. Martin currently is self-performing the demolition, along with both the interior work and store front glass, in preparation for Burlington to take possession of the building in mid-August.   Mike Wanezek of Colliers International in Milwaukee served as the leasing agent for H.J. Martin.  Adam Dreier of Mid-America Real Estate Group represented Burlington.

The headquarters of H.J. Martin and Son has been located within the Military Avenue Business District, at 320 S. Military Ave., since 1959.
