For the first time since 1979, Green Bay will be in the shadows of a partial solar eclipse and Downtown Green Bay, Inc. and the City of Green Bay want to make sure you don’t miss out. The two organizations will be co-hosting a Solar Eclipse viewing party on the CityDeck Monday, August 21 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm.
“We’ve been waiting 38 years to see this,” states Mayor Jim Schmitt. “With giveaways, educational commentary and children’s activities, the CityDeck will be the place to view the partial solar eclipse in Green Bay.”
Michael Olson, Assistant Professor of Physics at St. Norbert College, will be at the event to provide a play-by-play of the eclipse as well as educational information and trivia about eclipses. Weather permitting, Olson will bring telescopes for guests to use to view the eclipse.
Event organizers will have NASA approved solar viewers, commemorative t-shirts and eclipse-themed snacks for the first 100 people at the event. There will also be eclipse-themed children’s activities.
